Fairfax Service List
Our Fairfax team consists of two behavior specialty veterinarians, including our Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist, Dr. Amy Pike. These individuals, in addition to being trained in veterinary medicine, have dedicated their lives to studying animal behavior and psychology. They are well versed in a variety of behavior disorders including aggression, anxiety, OCD, impulsivity, and so much more. If you need the best in behavioral medicine, look no farther.
Once you have decided you would like to pursue therapy, we will ask that you bring your pet back for a Treatment Plan. The doctors will recommend which team member best suites your needs. At this appointment, our team will review the primary aspect of treatment: management, behavior modification, and medication. We’ll discuss the long-term goals and help you through some specific skills to get started.
Depending on how much coaching you need, we have trainers on staff who will guide you through interacting with and training your cat or dog. These can be done either in office or via video conference. In home options are available for select areas. Please contact us directly for more details.
Based on the severity of your pet’s medical condition, the doctors may determine medication would be helpful in reducing your animal’s overall arousal and anxiety level. This is a process that is specially tailored to your family and requires routine checkups to ensure things are progressing appropriately. These appointments are usually scheduled every 4-6 weeks for the first few months of therapy.
Sometimes, it isn't worth bringing our nervous patients back into the clinic. We still need to check on their progress regularly to ensure they are improving and you are comfortable with the plan.
While ABWC teaches several classes of their own, we also rent out our space to local force free trainers. Schedules change periodically, so be sure to see the full Group Classes page for more details.
Our belief is that with proper education, empathy, and understanding, families and professionals alike can learn to work and live with animals to the benefit of both parties. Every few weeks, the team will offer specific workshops designed to enhance your understanding of animal behavior, training, medicine, and care. Join our Newsletter and you'll receive emails describing each month's specific Workshop.
