This weekend we're making the final adjustments to our puppy socialization class. There is so much for a young puppy to learn in such a short period of time. It would be so much easier if we could download all this information into the brains of new pet owners (Matrix anyone?). Unfortunately, people can only absorb so much information at once.
Working in the behavior field, our primary focus for our class is reading body language, setting your puppy up for success, and how to effectively introduce novelty to your puppy/adult as they get older. Therefore, I have to say, I'm most excited about our "Novel Item" section of class. Kayla, who is the forerunner of this program, has put together a really fun list of items for each week. They're even categorized! So, one week we might focus on household items like a vacuum, broom, rolly chairs, etc. The next we might do veterinary equipment, nail trimmers, etc. We even have these really fun little signs to help guide our students around to each station.
I really can't express how excited I am to get this program under way. It's been a long time coming and I can't believe our starting day is nearly here! Eee!!
