Susan is a Pat Miller Certified Trainer Level 2 (PMCT-2), having completed six of Pat Miller’s week-long Academies: Basic Training and Behavior, Behavior Modification, Canine Aggression, Advanced Behavior Studies, and both levels of Canine Cognition. As well, she is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA-CTP).
Susan also teaches agility and puppy play groups at Your Dog’s Friend in Rockville. In Northern Virginia, she teaches Canine Parkour, Fido’s First Grade, and Puppy K classes with Joyful Dog. For the past six years she has volunteered at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, running dog play groups and helping with canine behavior modification and training.
She’s a continuing education fanatic, attending as many seminars and workshops on dog behavior as possible, including two weeks of Operant Training Chicken Camps with Bob Bailey, numerous seminars and trainers’ weeks with Suzanne Clothier, and a sled dog internship with Sue Sternberg.
For many years, Susan competed with her dog, Falco, in the United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA). These days, Falco is retired from agility and he and Susan enjoy taking lots of nose work classes.
Susan is a full member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, the Mid-Atlantic Association of Positive Professional Pet Trainers, and the Pet Professional Guild.
She holds an undergraduate degree in Political Theory from the University of Houston and an MFA in writing from George Mason University.
