Fear Free Medicine
It means taking into account the emotional well-being of the pet, not just the physical. In human medicine, there has been a huge shift in focusing on the psychological welfare of patients. We've realized that the mind and body are connected. If one suffers, so too does the other. The same is true for our furry, scaled, and feathered friends.
It means knowing that a bad experience today can make the next several years horrible for this animal. Veterinary care is important, but professionals cannot perform adequate physical examinations or interpret diagnostic data effectively if the patient is too anxious or aggressive. Stress changes values. Stress changes how we treat your pet.
It means we won't manhandle your pet and induce fear or pain. We use a combination of management techniques, trained behaviors, medication, and oh, so many treats to achieve our goals with your pets. All animals learn the same way and fear isn't the way to do it.
It means practicing veterinary medicine with compassion and empathy. All of our staff are Fear Free Certified Professionals. We put the pet's well-being ahead of "wants" and put a plan in place for the "needs" of their medical care.
